Verified July 2026
Newly hostile: the state rebate is dead (all funds claimed) and a new MSRP-based surcharge (min $150/yr, often $200+) replaced the flat $75 fee in January 2026. Utility charger perks are the only money left.
The $7,500 federal new-EV credit and $4,000 used-EV credit ended September 30, 2025 — and the federal home-charger credit (30C) followed on June 30, 2026. If anyone tells you otherwise, they're reading an old script. (Charger installed on or before June 30, 2026? That one's still claimable on that year's return — IRS Form 8911.)
CLOSED — "all funds have been claimed," 6,600+ rebates paid, no reopening announced.
The catch: Minnesota charges EV owners an extra $150+/yr (MSRP-based) at registration.
The new surcharge is 0.5% of MSRP (age-depreciated) with a $150/yr floor — a $50k EV pays ~$250/yr when new. PHEVs pay 0.25% (min $75). One of the sneakiest fee structures in the country.
