EV incentives in Colorado

Verified July 2026

Still the best EV state in the region — but the headline credit collapsed to $750 for 2026. The real money now is the income-qualified VXC exchange ($9,000 new / $6,000 used) and the $2,500 bonus on sub-$35k EVs.

The $7,500 federal new-EV credit and $4,000 used-EV credit ended September 30, 2025 — and the federal home-charger credit (30C) followed on June 30, 2026. If anyone tells you otherwise, they're reading an old script. (Charger installed on or before June 30, 2026? That one's still claimable on that year's return — IRS Form 8911.)

What CO offers on the purchase

Utility money

Xcel Energy — up to ~$1,300

Heads up: Xcel's EV purchase rebate is EXHAUSTED (fund depleted late 2024, not renewed). What remains: home wiring/charger rebates up to ~$1,300 (~$2,300 income-qualified), requires time-of-use or Optimize Your Charge enrollment.

Black Hills Energy — "Ready EV" — $500–$1,300

$500/port residential Level 2 rebate ($1,300 income-qualified — roughly the whole charger), requires Time-of-Day rate; plus a $10/month off-peak charging credit.

The catch: Colorado charges EV owners an extra ~$86/yr at registration.

The fee is $60 EV registration + a new $26 'road usage equalization' fee that ramps to ~$96/yr by 2031. And note: Colorado has NO used-EV credit — used buyers get $0 unless they income-qualify for VXC.
