One of the most common complaints regarding the electrification of the automotive industry is the lack of infrastructure throughout the U.S. The truth, per the Department of Energy's live station counts: as of mid-2026 there are more than 81,000 public charging locations in the US with over 250,000 public ports, about 177,000 Level 2 and more than 73,000 DC fast chargers. And the fast-charging buildout is accelerating, not stalling: DC-fast ports grew roughly 33% in 2025 alone. On top of that, Tesla opening its North American Charging Standard connector to other manufacturers means most new non-Tesla EVs can now use the biggest, most reliable network in the country. The "nowhere to charge" complaint is aging about as well as "the internet is a fad."
