The R2 is the smaller, cheaper Rivian, and one of the most important EVs of the year. Right now there is exactly one to buy: the R2 Performance with Rivian's Launch Package, better known as the Launch Edition, at $57,990 plus destination. It has two motors and 656 horsepower, gets to 60 in 3.6 seconds, and the EPA rates it at 330 miles on the 21-inch wheels or 307 on the all-terrain tires. The Launch Package adds the tow package (4,400 lb) and Rivian's Autonomy+ driver assistance. It charges at up to 217 kW on a 400V system, so not the fastest, but Rivian says 10 to 80% takes under 30 minutes. Want to spend less? The R2 Premium ($53,990) is due late 2026 and the Standard ($44,990) in 2027. Rivian builds the R2 in Normal, Illinois.
